The Pupil Premium is additional funding to help schools support the education and achievement of children from low-income and other disadvantaged families. The Pupil Premium is primarily aimed at children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) now and in the past as well as looked after and adopted children. Nationally the government is providing funding set at £1320 per pupil eligible for Pupil Premium with Looked After Children funded at £1900 (some of this funding is retained by MK Council).

Jubilee Wood Primary School has a Pupil Premium of £235,600 during the current financial year which the Governing Body monitors and spends to provide specific support for FSM children. Currently 37% of our children are eligible for Pupil Premium which is a higher proprtion than most schools in England. The aim is to increase their attainment and to ‘close the gap’ between their achievement and the achievemnent of children nationally;  we also aime to provide them with enriched experiences and a broad and balanced curriculum.

The following projects have been ear-marked for assistance from Pupil Premium in the current financial year. Figures are rounded to provide comparative data:

  1. a)   The costs of a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work across the school. This HLTA will provide specific support for FSM children requiring additional help and also train other Teaching Assistants to provide targeted support. (£24,000)
  2. b)   The costs of an additional Learning Mentor to support vulnerable children and work with their families to raise commitment and improve attainment. (£24,000)
  3. c)   The cost of one to one tuition for Y5 and Y6 children to boost attainment. (£10,000)
  4. d)   The subsidy of trips and events for FSM children. For example, Y5 FSM will visit a Holdenby House for the day at significantly reduced cost (just £5) as part of their curriculum entitlement. (£13,000)
  5. e)   The cost of buying in support from a specialist counsellor for particularly vulnerable children, and an Educational Psychologist to work with SEN children. (£15,000)
  6. f)    The subsidised cost of Chromebooks for FSM children in Y4 to be rolled out over the next three years to all children from Y4 to Y6 (£8000)
  7. g)   The cost of a school librarian to promote literacty skills (£16,000)
  8. h)   The cost of Inclusion TAs to work with children who are targeted in addition to the normal classroom TA (£50,000)
  9. i)    The cost of making our Inclusion Manager (AHT) non class-based to over see interventions and ‘closing the gap’ initiatives (£45000)
  10. h)    Additional resources (including computers) for children to use to boost attainment (£10000)
  11. i)     The cost of Numeracy support (using Numicon) including the 50% cost of a teacher to oversee this initiative (£20000)


The impact of the use of Pupil Premium is demonstrated below and as a school we are ‘closing the attainment gap’ for our younger children and working hard to improve attainment by Y6.  Data from Y1,Y2, Y3 and Y6 in July 2015, is available and shows how well Pupil Premium (PP) children performed compared to the school and national average:
